Flights to the Maldives have increased in availability as the Maldives
has increased in popularity among people from all over the world. Whether you
live in Europe, the Americas, Asia or Australasia, flying to the Maldives
is possible either in one single flight or with a simple connection.
International flights to the Maldives began operations in 1966 when
the international airport, originally called Hulhule Airport was opened to the
public. Later in 1981, the airport changed its name to
Male International
Airport and was officially inaugurated.
Several other airports in the Maldives offer domestic flights within
the Maldives, which allow people, both locals and visitors, to travel
quickly around the country.
The other airports in the Maldives are Gan International Airport, Hanimaadhoo
Airport, Kaadedhdoo Airport and Kadhdoo Airport. Despite its name, Gan
International Airport does not offer international flights from the Maldives,
although these are expected to start soon.
