Maldives Striving to be Ch0sen as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World

The New 7 Wonders is a foundation currently working on a list of the New 7 Natural Wonders of the World which will be decided in 2011. There are 28 finalists, including the Maldives. The Maldives is currently ranked number 14 in the list.

The Original 7 Ancient Wonders of the World

The 7 Ancient Wonders of the World are a list of remarkable man-made creations around the world. It is based on guidebooks popular at the time and includes attractions located in Europe. The list was decided to include 7 items as the Greeks believed the number seven to be a representation of “perfection and plenty”.

  2. The Temple of Artemis
  3. The Colussus of Rhodes
  4. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
  5. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
  6. The Pyramids of Egypt
  7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

The New 7 Manmade Wonders of the World

The new 7 Wonders of the World were announced on July 7, 2007, after a worldwide poll, organised by the New7Wonders Foundation. Over 100 million votes were cast around the world, and the winners were announced in Lisbon, Portugal. The New 7 Man-madeWonders of the World are as follows:

  1. Chichen Itza, Mexico
  2. Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
  3. The Colosseum, Rome, Italy
  4. The Great Wall of China
  5. Macchu Picchu, Peru
  6. Petra, Jordan
  7. The Taj Mahal, India

The Maldives is a Finalist in the 7 New Wonders of the World

The New 7 Natural Wonders of the World

The New7Wonders Foundation is now working on a new list of 7 Natural Wonders of the World. From an initial list of hundreds of amazing locations around the world, there is now a list of 28 places, from which the 7 Natural Wonders will be selected. The Maldives is among the Finalists, and is currently ranked number 14, according to the votes thus far. This is the ranking so far:

When a country is named among the 7 Wonders of the World, increases in tourism can be astounding, as many people around the world choose to visit these spectacular, must-see places on their next holiday. If the Maldives were to be named one of the New7NaturalWonders, there would no doubt be an increase in visitors from around the world, as well as an increase in publicity for this amazing country.
