Rangali Madivaru is an excellent scuba diving site in the Maldives. It is located in the South Ari Atoll, at the GPS coordinates 03.35272, 072.43150. The site is famous as a great place to see Manta Rays, making it one of the most popular dive sites in the South Ari Atoll.
Where does the name “Rangali Madivaru” come from?
In the local Maldivian language, Madi means Manta Ray and since this site is commonly frequented by Manta Rays, it is a very suitable name. The site is also sometimes known as Hukrueli Faru.
What is the best time to dive at Rangali Madivaru?
Scuba diving is best at Hukrueli Faru or Rangali Madivaru during the Northeast Monsoon Season, when it is a primary Manta Ray cleaning station. Divers here often enjoy an amazing spectacle from the Manta Rays when they come up to the reef to have their gills cleaned by small reef fish. When the Manta Rays come, divers must be quiet and still so as to not disturb the Manta Rays during this natural phenomenon.
Currents and Diving Safety at Rangali Madivaru?
As with many dive sites in the Maldives, currents can be strong at Rangali Madivaru and sometimes hazardous. Divers should be aware of the currents before descending and a surface balloon is always required at this dive site.
