Map of Maldives

A map of Maldives is an essential tool to any holiday in this exotic destination.  But, finding a map of Maldives is not as easy as you might expect.  The islands of the Maldives are spread out over an enormous distance, so a map of Maldives is a very long map, with not very much land mass at all.  We have put together a selection of maps of the atolls of the Maldives to help you get a better grasp of where everything is in the Maldives.

Guests aboard the Black Pearl Liveaboard dive at Nassimo Thila and Kuda Giri in the Maldives…

The Black Pearl liveaboard began the day’s first dive from Nassimo Thila, which is considered to be one of the Maldives’ best dive sites.

Nassimo Thila Dive Site

During your next diving holiday in the Maldives, Nassimo Thila is a must! Nassimo Thila is an oval-shaped Thila displaying a good variety of colourful, soft corals. The most interesting aspect of Nassimo Thila is the randomly scattered pinnacles.

Nassimo Thila features scattered coral blocks rising from the ocean floor up to 23 meters, as well as caves and overhangs where divers can swim around and observe the beauty of this oval-shaped thila.

Gulhi Island, South Male’ Atoll

The weather conditions improved, allowing the Black Pearl liveaboard to cross over to the island of Gulhi in the South Male’ Atoll.

Kuda Giri Dive Site

The second dive was performed at Kuda Giri as night dive. Kuda Giri is one of the ideal locations around the Male’ Atoll for to perform an easy night dive site. This small Giri offers everything from beautiful coral growth to interesting reef dwellers during the night.

Caves and overhangs are filled with a species of sponge called tubastrea, also known as sun coral. Marine life includes leaf fish, scorpion fish, moray eels and nudibraches.

Three Dives

After a superb dive at Kuda Rah Thila (Protected Marine Area), Sting Ray headed towards Omadhoo Thila for the day’s third dive.

At Kuda Rah Thila the current was extremely strong but displayed plenty of fish. On the up current were Yellow Back Fusiliers and Thin Lined Fusiliers. The caves were filled with blue stripped snappers exhibiting a yellow cloud.

The current faded to a milder version on the second dive but didn’t change the fish life. More white tip reef sharks and other pelagic were seen.

For the third dive Sting Ray crossed over to South Male’ atoll and dived at Medhu Faru in late afternoon. Among the highlights were Giant Trevallies that gathered near the fallen coral blocks and leaf fish.

The visibility remained poor both at Southern Ari and South Male’ atoll and the current were flowing out of the atoll most of the time.

Last dive of the trip

Fortunately the current was flowing in to the atoll early morning at around 6:00. This gave the opportunity for the diver to begin their dive at Cocoa Corner and cross over to Kandooma Thila to the end of the dive and the divers witnessed heaps of Gray Reef Sharks.

For most divers or for the shark lovers this is a must to do dive but can be a very strenuous dive as divers might have to swim across /against the current and spend dive below 25 to 28 meter. This is the best method to see the channel entrance and observe gray reef sharks, white tip and lots and lots of pelagic.

Rasdhoo to North Ari atoll

Early morning Hammer Head dive took place at Rasdhoo Madivaru on Thursday, the underwater condition was poor mainly because of visibility. Only few divers got to witness 4 Hammerhead Sharks.

Anchored at Maayfushi lagoon and went off for second dive at Maaya Thila which turned out to be an amazing dive.

Much more action on Maaya Thila during the night dive, the current condition was strong which led to heaps of White Tip Reef sharks and many other fish.

Moving South

Out of 3 dives which took place on Friday, Mushimasmingili Thila (Fish Head) ranks first and interesting dive, clear visibility with average current and tons of fish including 4 Gray Reef Sharks.

The second most interesting dive holds Raidhigaa Thila, again with very clear waters, displaying colorful soft corals and many Gray Reef Sharks.

Whale Shark search

Saturdays first dive to Angaga Thila, the visibility remain unchanged but its resident Gray Reef Sharks and Tuna’s were missing due to inadequate current.

The same story repeated on the southern border and didn’t catch sight of whale sharks too and the visibility on 3rd dive at 5 rocks remains very poor.

Mantas at Dhigu Rah Lagoon

On returning from the dive to main boat the dive guide spotted Mantas inside the lagoon from Dhigu Rah. Having enough time before sunset, everyone decided to go for snorkeling with Mantas.

MV Sting Ray will be heading to south Male’ atoll tomorrow and will perform the top dive sites including around south Male’ before the trip comes to an end.
