Was Ted Kennedy a Scuba Enthusiast?

As the US begins to mourn the loss of the last remaining brother of the Kennedy dynasty, we decided to see if the legendary Senator had any links to Scuba Diving throughout his life.

1969 Ted Kennedy Incident

Unfortunately, the only link I could find was that in 1969, Ted Kennedy had been involved in a car accident, during which a car in which he and a female companion, Mary Jo Kopechne were travelling, went off the road and landed in water.  Kennedy got out of the car and walked back to his hotel to go to sleep, leaving the girl gasping for air, stuck under the water in the car.

What became of the Ted Kennedy Incident?

Alas, the next day, as Kennedy saw the authorities in scuba diving gear removing her body from the car, he called police, but seemingly only to save his political career.  Unfortunately he did not have the courage to risk his political career for Mary Jo’s life.

Ted Kennedy, Rest In Peace.
